28 Years Later, the follow-up to the legendary 28 Days Later, has greatly heightened interest in the horror genre with the launch of its listing. The director has once again been Danny Boyle and the plot is set inside the timeline a few decades after its previous part amidst the great havoc caused due to Rage Virus. A whole host of new cast members including Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes have joined the film but the most loyal fans of the series are eager to see whether Cillian Murphy returns as Jim or not.

Any devotee of this series will know that the trailer for 28 Years Later is the main teaser that the followers could have expected and this speculation could be the commencing for significant tension action, and needless to say, the undead. The teasers also tell much about the film stating that Boyle still had a touch of the film’s original tone which showcased how the director managed to incorporate gore with depth but what remains a concern are the fans : As with any other sequel, the answer still stands, will this installment live up to the standard?

New Beginnings in the Apocalypse

The trailer begins with Aaron Taylor-Johnson aka Jack, who is presumably the lead in the movie, and he must lead his odd group in order to survive a world that is finally recovering from the outbreak.

Humanity has come a long way, over the 28 years, people could have either evolved or succumbed, but even then the scars on the society are deeply rooted. The people who managed to survive now sit on mounds of ruins of the previous civilization. Cities are mostly abandoned, and moreover, the infected remain a threat to ever more.

The fights must have made gain of the former civilization fearful yet ready to take risks, Taylor-Johnson’s character is one. The manner in which he performs provides a good impression that he is going to make a solid contribution to this movie as a psychotic human being who is mastered at surviving.

Dr. Michael Harrow, who has been dodging his captors for years now is an ex scientist turned survivalist, and now even a fighter. In the teaser he is seen willing to collaborate with Taylor-Johnson’s crew for the greater good which will enable the crew to be able to further the war man vs infected but doing so he risks tipping the axis of reality through his character and ideas.

The thing about Fiennes- his interpretation of Harrow more than a simple flesh eating monster, combatting the undead, he is multidimensional. In case he has information about the virus, the only ambiguation left is when turn out to be a villain rather than a hero. With so many heroes present, it is interesting to see the complexity of moral dilemma in dealing with such a big conflict without morality in the center.

Resurgence, Ominous Dany Boyle Perspective: The Ascent/Danny Boyle Pic.

It comes as no surprise that in 2002 the first installment of the 28 Days Later series was directed by Dany Boyle as well.

Boyle’s style is widely lauded for its fusion of intense horror with thought-provoking elements and his vision with this sequel seems to be in favor of the former since it is a continuation of the film while complementing its core essence. The video has a well-established tempo; it cuts between peaceful moments of thought and flashes of brutality to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

The camera work also continues the traditions set out in the first one: the apocalypse is paranoid. The bleak remains of a civilization once ideologically and technologically advanced has been disrupted, and Earth is an all-encompassing wasteland. Perhaps it is the power surge of 28 years that makes this modernistic depiction of the end gloomy to the very least. Rather than just ‘surviving’ in fear, the population has embedded itself into the horror of the first part while emerging entirely different in the new world.

The Centre Problem: Does Jim pass on to the great beyond and does Cillian Murphy feature in the story.

An upcoming question which is set to make its rounds is the likelihood of Jim, played by actor Cillian Murphy, making an appearance for 28 Years Later despite the uncertainties that other characters may not be returning. Cillian Murphy’s highlight of waking up from a coma surrounded by chaos is central to the theme of how people came to view the series as dramatically powerful for them.

The psychological nuances of the character and his built-in exposure have made the storyline less scary.

In one still from the trailer, there is one swift look which suggests that we might just get to see Murphy again. However, quite unless evidence is provided, spoilers do hold back on mentioning whether Murphy is likely to feature. The presence of Jim on the other hand is looked at in a more speculative view as to whether or not he will be relegated to the title of a cameo or have a more central role in the movie.

Considering the circumstances, Jim could have potentially aged quite a lot and a leap of faith serves him purpose in his acting in the sequel, provided it advances the narrative inside out. While there is no endorsement to Murphy’s participation in the film, rumors of his participation do quite make it one of the thrills of the movie.

The Contribution of 28 Days Later
